Constructing Thesis statements:

Today I researched about DACA  (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), and how the president is attempting to end this program. I decided to write a short persuasive piece on the topic.

In 2012, the Obama administration created the Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, also known as DACA. This program protected undocumented immigrants from deportation as long as they have not had any prior criminal record or committed any crime of any sort. Now, president Trump is shutting down the DACA program with a six-month delay. The president should keep the DACA program because the deportation of adult immigrants would allow them to face third world poverty and oppression, the removal of the DACA program would hurt the US economy and a quarter of DACA recipients have US citizen children.

The president should keep the DACA program because the deportation of adult immigration allows them to face third world poverty and oppression. The majority of illegal immigrants are fleeing in an act of desperation and because their home country is no longer safe. If the president were to send DACA adults and children back to their homeland, they would be forced to live in the same oppressive and dangerous environments that they were trying to escape. But I can understand the argument that deliberate violations of the law should never be tolerated, regardless of circumstance.

He should elect to keep the DACA program because the removal of the DACA program would hurt the US economy. According to CNN and CNBC, the removal of the DACA program could cost the United States the loss of more than 400 billion dollars. The Washington post estimates that DACA members are responsible for 25% of the United State’s annual income. The removal of DACA would cause the US economy to experience an abrupt decline.

The removal of the DACA program would be devastating for the reason that and a quarter of DACA recipients have US citizen children. Although DACA seems like a group that is just providing solace for illegal immigrants, it is much more than that. People have come to America with a new-found hope and security. These people have been able to settle down and have families-The American Dream. However, if the DACA program were to be eradicated, these families would face a certain risk of being torn apart. Parents would return to their previous home resulting in children who would be uprooted from their home in America or forced to live as orphans.

I didn’t have time to write a conclusion paragraph. This essay of course has many flaws but it is the structure that I think we are practicing that is more important. I bolded one line in my essay because it is a concencio- strenghtening an arugement by conceding a good point that the opposition has made.

Here’s another thesis statement:

the US Congress should support the federal legislation that allows same-sex couples to marry because the US constitution explicitly states equal rights for all men, not supporting this law is considered segregation against same-sex couples and there are moral and ethical implications that are tied in with supporting same-sex marriage.

Once again, it is a very rough start and it isn’t perfect but it gives a good idea of what an essay should look like and be structured.
